About Us
In 2019 we started with a mission to build a better construction schedule. We are a small team that plans to stay small for as long as we can. Our business model is about understanding our customers, building great software, and backing it up with great support. We’re focused on building a profitable business instead of growth at all costs. We’re fully independent and answer only to ourselves and our customers. We’re a fully-remote company with no physical headquarters.

What Makes Us Different
For half a century, construction productivity has remained stagnant. We have better materials, better equipment, new methodologies, new computer software. Why has none of this moved the needle even 1 percent for construction productivity? Because, building things that have never existed before is really $%@&# hard. No two projects are exactly the same and achieving success requires coordinating a web of specialty contractors, architects, material suppliers, equipment manufacturers, bankers, insurers, and inspectors. It’s a dysfunctional bee hive.

We felt this pain first hand as a plumbing and heating contractor. The bad schedules that could never be met. The long hours fixing other people's mistakes. The screaming matches over unpaid pay apps. So we turned to software and its promise to solve all our problems. And it worked… kind of. Too often software only fixed one problem in one area of our business. We’d string multiple products together to mimic what we used to do on paper. Each piece of the process was better but it was the same complex process. We came to realize that it was the complexity that didn’t work, humans are just bad at managing it.

Modern construction software is full of features that help us produce more. More tasks, more documents, more budgets, more dependencies, more KPIs, more estimates. More complexity. What if it's not about producing more but wasting less. What if we all worked off one schedule instead of six, what if contractors could know when and where to work without being on the phone half the day, what if every stakeholder could read the project status as easily as reading a book, what if you didn’t need 40 hours of training to build a good schedule.

That’s the tool we’re building. That’s BlackHyve.
