Lead Engineer

At Kickboard, we’re looking for an ambitious, thoughtful and experienced software engineer to lead our growing engineering team. In this role, you’ll be fully responsible for the engineering side of our company, including engineering process, architecture, team management, recruitment, and growth.

Kickboard works to give educators the tools they need to create safe and happy schools where students and staff thrive.   • In the first 12 months, you’ll likely spend 75% of your time on software development, and 25% on people and process management. That ratio should shift in year 2.

  • Write code every day. Develop, test, and deploy features across the entire stack

  • Manage the agile development process

  • Lead the charge on automation, continuous integration, and security

  • Lead a distributed team of full stack engineers

  • Recruit, build and scale the engineering team, with support from HR

  • Shape and define the engineering culture

  • Collaborate closely with our product team to define, plan, and prioritize our product roadmap

  • Network externally and attend/present/host at local meetups and national conferences to help build our brand awareness

Your technical expertise includes…

If you have some but not all of this experience, we encourage you to apply anyway.

  1. Developing, maintaining and scaling SaaS web applications using an Object Oriented framework and typical database infrastructure

  2. Developing with PHP especially around web APIs

  3. Developing with Javascript with proficiency supporting front end frameworks such as React.js and Angular.js

  4. Migrating services to AWS or similar cloud services

  5. Familiarity with administering Linux based cloud hosted servers

  6. Adoption of continuous integration and automated deployment

  7. Working with git or other version control software

  8. Enthusiasm for incorporating testing methodologies

Your management/leadership expertise includes...

  1. Leading agile/scrum teams

  2. Taking complex ideas/features and creating realistic plans/schedule for team to adhere to

  3. Technical planning and drafting technical requirements from business requirements  

  4. Performing code reviews to ensure quality for entire project

  5. Keeping a remote team on the same page and motivated

  6. Mentoring and growing a team of high-achieving, curious engineers
