Reporting to the Chief Architect, the Software Architect will be responsible for the overseeing of the technical direction and architecture of the software built at Cofense.

 Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Work with the Product team, fellow architects, and the development teams to create and communicate the software architecture for a unified and coherent suite or products.
  • Understand system requirements and architectures across multiple products
  • Working with leadership, help lead the development teams and participate in scrum ceremonies, look for areas of duplication and opportunities for cross-team collaboration, and ensure the team has the capability to implement the necessary technical direction.
  • Generate necessary documentation to communicate architectural and design options to technical and non-technical personnel and maintain the documentation as projects evolve.
  • Using the product roadmap, make decisions about our technical direction and influence technical decisions as a member of engineering leadership.
  • Maintain an architecture roadmap and technology radar to guide engineering direction and the evolution of our product offerings.
  • Collaborate with other product teams to integrate all Cofense products into a precise suite and ensure consistent usability.
  • Investigate third party applications and APIs and check compatibility for potential integration with the Cofense suite of products.
  • Ensure the team has the information to understand the “big picture” and where their product fits in that picture, has the information to implement the necessary technical direction, and has the opportunity to give feedback on the architecture and potential pitfalls.
  • Demonstrate a real passion for developing well architected, elegant software tools and services.
  • Coordinate (and participate as necessary in) the building of prototypes and proof-of-concept systems to validate technology choices.
  • Develop and maintain engineering standards for code reviews, quality metrics, and reporting to measure and maintain the quality of software produced.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Extensive experience in multiple languages, depth of knowledge in Java or Ruby is a plus.
  • Experience in micro-service architecture and practices.
  • Experience with API development.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work remotely.
  • Superb analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proactive, motivated and able to work in teams or alone.
  • Like to mentor engineers as well as learn from them.
  • Possess a solid understanding of distributed systems.
  • Strong desire to maintain and develop skills to stay ahead of available technologies.
  • Approximately 10% travel. Some occasional international travel may be required.
Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred; strong preference given for advanced degrees in software technology related fields.
  • At least 10+ years of professional experience in the software engineering/architecture field.
  • Experience with high-volume applications.
  • Experience in a lead position on a scrum team with knowledge of various forms of Agile software development, SDLCs, and branching models.
