Senior Financial Data Engineer (EU/UK/LatAm/UAE)

We are seeking an exceptional Senior Financial Data Engineer to join our growing data team. In this pivotal role, you will be the bridge between our vast financial datasets and critical business insights, working across engineering and business functions to unlock the value in our transaction data.

As our Senior Financial Data Engineer, you will build and optimize our data infrastructure while creating sophisticated analytics solutions that drive business decisions. You'll collaborate closely with finance, operations, and revenue teams to transform complex financial data into actionable intelligence that shapes our company's strategic direction.


Core Responsibilities:

  • Data Engineering & Architecture: Design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines and infrastructure handling large-scale financial transaction data in BigQuery, ensuring data quality, accessibility, and scalability.
  • Python Development: Create sophisticated data parsers, ETL processes, and utility applications with clean, maintainable Python code that meets both technical and business requirements.
  • Business Intelligence: Develop advanced dashboards, workbooks, and self-service analytics solutions using Sigma BI, enabling stakeholders to derive insights independently.
  • Financial Analysis Partnership: Serve as the primary data partner for the finance department, understanding their unique requirements and translating them into technical solutions.
  • Data Science & Statistical Analysis: Apply statistical methods and data science techniques using Python and R to analyze trends, identify patterns, and explain the "why" behind data anomalies and business performance.
  • User Interface Development: Build intuitive, lightweight UI components for data-loading tools and utilities that streamline operations and improve workflow efficiency.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, product, and business teams to ensure data solutions align with organizational objectives and technical standards.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Develop comprehensive documentation for data models, pipelines, and analytics methodologies to foster understanding across the organization.
  • Performance Optimization: Continuously improve data processing efficiency, query performance, and overall system architecture to handle growing data volumes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in data engineering, data science, or similar roles with progressive responsibility.
  • Strong proficiency in Python programming, including experience with data processing libraries (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy) and application development.
  • Extensive experience with BigQuery or similar cloud data warehousing platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and optimize complex SQL queries for large datasets.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools, preferably Sigma BI, but equivalent experience in Looker or PowerBI will be accepted.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and data science methodologies, with R programming experience a plus.
  • Understanding of financial data structures and transaction processing systems.
  • Experience developing simple but effective user interfaces for data tools (using frameworks like Flask, Streamlit, or Dash).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business questions into technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while collaborating across teams.
  • C1 or better level written and spoken English

Working Hours:

This role requires availability during US business hours for meetings with key stakeholders. Candidates must be available Monday through Friday from 8AM to 1PM Pacific Time (currently 4PM to 9PM in UK, 5PM to 10PM in Central Europe,  7PM to 12AM in UAE) , subject to change with daylight savings time in the US). Outside of these core hours, work can be completed on a generally flexible schedule to complete the work week.

Candidate must be authorized to work in their country of residence. With the exception of the UAE, Aurora does not sponsor work visas and is unable to provide relocation assistance, as this is a remote role.
